Our family goal of traveling to all fifty U.S. States and seven continents was born over the course of several twelve-hour plane flights in early 2000. My business took me to Asia quite often causing me to be away from my family but giving me plenty of time to plan how to use the frequent flyer miles I was amassing. After staring incessantly at the world map in the Northwest World Traveler magazine, I conceived of a plan that would take five years and the redemption of two million frequent flyer miles to accomplish. At the time I wasn't sure if, how, or when we may complete our goal, but we decided to start and see how it would unfold. 5 years, 8 months, 24 countries, 118,063 flight miles, 251 hours in coach airplane seats, 20,226 car miles, 1,616 boat miles, 613 bus miles, 459 train miles, and several hundred taxi miles later we accomplished our dream and our story is contained in these pages.
